A REGIONAL MECHANISM TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO DISPARATE KNOWLEDGE RESOURCES, DATA AND EXPERTISE The Secretary General’s December 2017 report on repositioning the United Nations development system (UNDS) to deliver on the 2030 Agenda, re-affirmed the important role of regional entities in the UNDS and the importance of capturing the regional dimension for Agenda 2030. The report also recognized the important role of regional actors in: offering a convening platform for both intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder discussions on key development priorities; delivering integrated policy advice; providing normative support and technical capacity on regional priorities; enhancing the policy and analytical capacities of Resident Coordinators (RCs) and United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs); and contextualizing country analysis in regional specificities. The Asia-Pacific Knowledge Management Hub (KMH) is a response as a part of this wider long-term re-profiling and restructuring of the UNDS assets at the regional level with the objective of leveraging regional assets for better support to country, sub-regional and regional level priorities. The KMH pools together policy expertise by and across sectors, allowing countries and country teams to easily identify the expertise available, and facilitating a response to emerging national needs to ultimately accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The effort is led by UNESCAP and the Asia-Pacific UN Development Coordination Office, in close consultation with the regional UN Sustainable Development Group.
