01 Jul 2023 Climate change has pushed the East Asia and Pacific region across a tipping point of irreversible damage. As the concentrations of human-caused greenhouse gases (GHGs) have grown, the global temperature has increased by 1.2°C. Within the East Asia and Pacific region, the atmosphere and oceans have warmed, many coral reefs have disappeared, and sea levels have risen. Weather patterns have shifted, changing in frequency as well as severity. Pollution of air, soil and water continues to cause harm. All of this is having a devastating impact on nature, bringing about irreversible changes to many ecosystems, with a consequent loss of biodiversity and the functions and services that human well-being depends on
