01 Feb 2024 The climate crisis profoundly affects children’s well-being, education, safety, and stability. The East Asia and Pacific region is one of the most vulnerable regions to climate and environmental hazards. UNICEF’s Children’s Climate Risk Index (CCRI) reveals that 140 million children face water scarcity, 120 million are highly exposed to coastal flooding, 210 million to cyclones, and 420 million face high levels of air pollution, with these numbers expected to rise. Children in this region also face six times more climate-related shocks today, than their grandparents did when they were children 50 years ago.
